It has been a while since I have updated the blog, I am still trying to get everything ready for my own aliyah in December.

I have to post my change in feelings re: several gadgets I have reviewed.

Terrapin Mine: Current opinion... Junk no wonder they are hard to find now.
It had very strong possibilities of being cool, but the lack of an open source hackable OS to load onto it it is pretty weak, the config software requires a windows machine, and lastly it has crashed and is awaiting a windows machine to re-format it.

Zaurus: Opinion gets better every day
I am thinking of getting a 2.2 gig microdrive (compact flash type II form factor) to make it more multimedia friendly then I would be able to carry 3-4 movies and a pile of music. Ratoc makes a usb host CF card and this could make some cool things like USB keyboard WiFi dongle and Hard disk possible concurently using a mini hub while still fitting in a pocket. I have used the zaurus as a laptop replacement and now need to schlep my laptop once or twice a month.
Another idea is to make a field charger using 3 C or D cells in a tubular holder and a charge tip this would eliminate my earlier fear of having no way to power the device when away from power. charging is not a problem I do it every night and batterey life likely is the same as a old dragonball CPU device.


I have switched from toe clips to bicycle shoes.
After replacing another set of shoes after six months because I had rubbed the soles off I decided to switch to clipless bike shoes.
I have a friend who has ridden and worn his shimano shoes for three years after buying them used. I am guessing it is the metal lock-in plate that takes all the abuse and the rubber is not rubbed away from biking/walking. I may darken some grey leather parts of the shoes with black shoe dye so they look better with nice clothes.
